29 April 2017 PARIS to THE SOMME:

Our tour departs for the Somme from our Paris hotel, at 0900. Guests are to be at the hotel by 0830. En route to Peronne, we pause at the Forest of Compiegne where the armistice was signed in 1918. 30 April 2017 THE SOMME: After breakfast your coach will depart for the first of three days touring the Somme battlefields. Your Military Historian travelling with you will brief you during the day on events and the significance of the places you visit.

During the touring days you will visit many of the battle sites, memorials and cemeteries of the Somme and today we intend to visit the areas where the Australians fought leading to the advance to Bullecourt. B/L/D

1 May 2017 THE SOMME:

With your box lunch for sustenance, you will again be led through the Somme battlefields by your historian. For tomorrow we will take you through the battle of the villages leading to Bullecourt. B/L/D

2 May 2017 THE SOMME:

After breakfast we set off again but this time the areas we visit were in 1917, not scarred by lines of trenches while barbed wire was in place only around the German held villages. These were the outpost villages of the Hindenburg Line and the actions were over rolling ground, with its buildings, sunken roads, hedges and farms. Beugny, Velu, Morchies, Lagnicourt, Noreuill and Longatte were just a few of the villages fought over during this advance to Bullecourt. B/L/D

3 May 2017 THE SOMME:

Even though the battles at Bullecourt were fought over many weeks, this day was special as after an hour the Australians held half their objectives in the Hindenburg Line.

100 years after our soldiers fought so gallantly over these very fields, we will walk the battlefield, hold our own short service at the Australian Memorial and visit the town's Museum.B/L/D

4 May 2017 THE SOMME TO PARIS:

A leisurely breakfast prior to saying goodbye to the Somme as we head south to Paris. There will be a couple of drop off points in Paris and they will be relayed to you at a later time. B
