On Tour - Gallipoli Remembered - 7 May 2009
Today we took a full day city tour - visiting the highlights of Istanbul. The Blue Mosque, famous for its six minarets and blue Iznik tiles, then visited the Saint Sophia, originally a Byzantine Cathedral converted into a mosque after the conquest of Istanbul and later into a Museum. Next stop was the Underground Cistern. Then on to the Topkapi Palace, residence of the sultans of turkey for lunch and a Palace visit. In the afternoon we visited the Grand Bazaar, it is amazing how little a Rolex watch can cost; but is it really a Rolex? We all bought some Turkish Delight to take home (provided we do not eat it before we get on the plane).
