Today, we visited the area of the Rethymon battles that won the day but were called on to surrender due to the failure to win at Maleme as a result of poor leadership by both the Brigade Commander and the Battalion Commander. You do not walk off the key terrain.

We then followed the retirement across the mountains to Sfakia where the evacuation was carried out. Pity that 2/7 Bn was left on the beach after what they did.

Then on to Preveli Monestery where we visited and paid our respects.

Tomorrow Knossos Palace and Heraklion.
